TPEA 37th Annual Conference
New Perspectives on Education and Technology
2nd - 3rd July 2025

A Different Kind of Conference...

This year, we will be exploring a new format for the TPEA Annual Conference. Thanks to our generous sponsors at Taylor Francis, the conference will be free to TPEA Members+ (conference attendance fee, lunch and coffee breaks will all be covered) and we also have a number of travel and accommodation bursaries to support your attendance. (Please note that TPEA Institutional Members+ accounts cover up to 5 individuals).

This will not be a traditional conference – we will spend two days working together to produce resources for our community and colleagues in schools, ITT providers and universities. The outcome of our conference will be a number of ‘TPEA Perspectives’ – short reports with insights from research and practice, case studies of good practice, and ideas for action. These will be edited and published shortly after the conference. Every attendee will be expected to contribute as a co-author to one or more of the TPEA Perspective reports.

Conference Venue – York St John University

This year’s TPEA Annual Conference will be held at York St John University on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd July 2025. The venue will be set in Temple Hall and De Grey Rooms on the central campus in the heart of York. The venue is easily accessible from York Train Station and in walking distance of the city centre.

There are many excellent hotels close to the venue and thanks to our colleagues at York St John, we have arranged for a number of hotel discounts for conference attendees.

Conference Themes

The final themes will be decided based on the applications to attend. (Individual themes will not run if there is insufficient interest from those attending.)

During the conference, attendees will form working groups to debate, share and collate examples of research and practice. Together, each group will create a ‘TPEA Perspective’ – a community resource on one of the following topics:

  • Digital Skills in the School Curriculum

What digital skills do we believe learners need to be taught in our schools? What case studies of effective practice in schools or teacher professional development can we collate and share?

  • AI in Education – a guide for teachers and senior leaders

With AI evolving at such a rapid pace, we want to create open-access TPEA resources to help teachers and school leaders get ahead with using AI in school. This group will develop key messages, advice and guidance and create something like a ‘buyer’s guide’ to AI Tools for Schools.

  • AI in Education – resources for ITE

Can we share resources that we are using to teach our student teachers about AI? What do novice teachers need to know, understand and be able to do with AI?

  • Assistive Technology

How can we guide schools and teachers to break down barriers and transform lives with assistive technology?

  • Assessment in HE

How can higher education ensure assessments are robust and relevant in a world where students are using technology in new ways? How can we create assessments that involve meaningful use of AI that do not detract from student learning.

  • TPEA manifesto / call to action

Following on from our 2024 conference and the work from the 2025 conference, this group will draw together the various strands of work into a shareable position paper ‘manifesto’ for the TPEA and its ‘call to action’ for 2025 onwards.

Apply for your FREE ticket today

Tickets for the 2025 TPEA Annual Conference are FREE for TPEA Members+. This includes everyone with an individual Members+ subscription (sign up here for only £40), up to 5 individuals at an institution with an institutional membership, and all Honorary members.

Your ticket includes: access to all sessions, lunch and refreshments on both Wednesday 2nd July and Thursday 3rd July.

There are a limited number of spaces at the conference and we need to ensure that all attendees will be able to make a suitable contribution to our work. Therefore, to receive an invitation for a free ticket to the conference (and, where applicable, a bursary), you will need to submit a short application showing how you will contribute.

This should be in the form of a short piece of writing relating to one of our themes. You should submit 300 – 600 words in a blog style suitable for a readership of educators. For example, you might provide a summary of some research on the topic or an example/ case study of your own practice.

As part of the submission, you will be asked to confirm that you are the author of your submission. While you will retain authorship, you will permit TPEA to use your submission under the terms of a Creative Commons CCBY licence so that we can share work with our community. Statement on use of AI in your submission

If AI is used to contribute to your submission, you must explain precisely how it was used. We want to check your ability to contribute to our conference so work solely generated by AI would not be appropriate.
